Benefits of LASIK

Fast

LASIK surgery takes about 4 minutes to perform for each eye. After a next-day post-op appointment, patients can return to work and school within 24 hours.

Pain-Free

Before the procedure, eye drops with a local anesthetic are used to numb the eyes. This makes LASIK comfortable and pain-free for the patient.

Save Money

When you consider the cost of glasses, contact lenses, and contact lens solution, you discover you have paid for LASIK many times over. LASIK is a wise investment and offers visual freedom from the hassles of glasses and contact lenses.

Self-Confidence

Stop hiding your eyes behind glasses. LASIK can help improve your self-confidence by removing the need to wear spectacles.

Active Lifestyle

After LASIK, patients can enjoy an active lifestyle without having to worry about their glasses falling or breaking when playing sports or living their life.

Allergy Relief

Pollen and other allergens can get trapped below contact lenses and lead to itchy, irritated eyes. LASIK offers visual freedom from contact lenses.

Is LASIK painful?

Before your LASIK procedure, Dr. Iskander will administer anesthetic eye drops to numb the eyes and make the procedure pain-free. Once the anesthetic wears off, patients may experience minor discomfort that can be treated with pain medications.

What are the risks with LASIK?

arrow icon

Any surgical procedure will have risks. With LASIK, minor complications, such as a longer recovery time, occur in about 1% of patients. Potentially major complications, such as infections near the eye, occur in about 1 in 1,000 patients. Visit our LASIK Risks page for a full list of risks from the FDA.

How long do the effects of LASIK surgery last?

arrow icon

LASIK is a permanent refractive procedure that corrects refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK is life-changing, offering active patients the luxury of visual freedom without all the inconveniences of glasses and contact lenses. Dr. Iskander specializes in refractive surgery, the art of correcting refractive errors. He completed his refractive fellowship training in 2000 and has co-authored a book on LASIK. His enhancement rate is less than 2%. LASIK is an ideal procedure for patients as young as 18 into their 40s, as long as their eye prescription is stable.  LASIK does not change, with time, the eye ages, and thus vision changes. But, as we enter our 40’s, other refractive options become available. The visual options are dependent on a patient’s eyes and lifestyle. Various refractive solutions are determined upon your eye examination.

Will I still have to wear my glasses after LASIK surgery?

arrow icon

The purpose of LASIK is to surgically correct refractive errors to eliminate the use of glasses. Millions of people have had LASIK, worldwide, and are happy with the results.

Are some people too old for LASIK?

arrow icon

LASIK is ideal for patients with overall good health. Patients with autoimmune disorders, in the active stage, are not advised to have LASIK. In general, as long as the patient’s eye prescription is stable, LASIK is FDA-approved from age 18 onwards. Patients should not have LASIK if they have a cataract. Cataract removal must be first addressed. LASIK may be performed later in life to refine other prior surgeries.

Will I need to be put under anesthesia for my LASIK procedure?

arrow icon

LASIK is a very fast procedure, taking about 4 minutes per eye. We apply topical anesthetic drops and administer an oral sedative to relax the patient. We have a glass-encased state-of-the-art surgical suite where friends and family can view the procedure during your visual transformation.

Can LASIK eye surgery be unsuccessful?

arrow icon

There are risks with any surgery. Most intraoperative risks are associated with a flap complication, albeit very rare, especially with precise, reproducible, and fast laser technology versus microkeratome-bladed technology. What is of sound importance, is researching an experienced, fellowship-trained refractive LASIK surgeon, like Dr. Iskander, skilled and seasoned in managing complex cases.
