What is a Blepharoplasty?

A blepharoplasty, or eyelid rejuvenation, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the upper eyelids to provide a more youthful appearance. As one ages, the eyelids tend to become increasingly droopy and puffy. Sagging eyelids can not only make one look older and more fatigued, it can also obstruct sight and affect quality of life. By removing the extra folds of skin from the eye area, patients will look younger, more refreshed, and be able to see better without obstruction.

Am I A Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a highly sought-after cosmetic procedure for both men and women in San Antonio who wish to have a more youthful appearance. If you have any of the following conditions, an eyelid surgery may be able to help:

Fatigued Appearance

Having under-eye bags or excess skin around the eye can be difficult to cover up and make a person look tired and fatigued. This can affect individuals with client-facing jobs.

Sight Obstruction

When eyelids have excessive skin, they can obstruct one’s vision and affect their quality of life. A blepharoplasty can help patients see better.

Drooping Eyelids

Drooping eyelids can be hereditary and make one look older than they actually are.

What to Expect During Eyelid Rejuvenation Surgery

During an eyelid surgery, the patient is placed under local anesthetic in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. Dr. Iskander will then make a tiny incision along the crease of the eyelid. At this time, Dr. Iskander will remove herniated fat and excess skin from the eyelid. The remaining skin is then tightened and sutured with fine hair-like sutures. The entire surgery takes less than two hours to complete. After surgery, patients should take 24 to 48 hours to rest before returning to normal activities. Rigorous physical activities should wait until a week after surgery so the eyes can heal completely.
