What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX®, or Botulinum Toxin, is a minimally invasive, non-surgical solution for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet. Approved by the FDA in 1986, BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injectable that is administered to the treatment area in a procedure that takes less than 10 minutes. BOTOX® works by targeting the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and blocking their nerve impulses. This not only reduces the appearance of wrinkles, it also reduces the movement of the affected muscles which can prevent facial wrinkles from developing further.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is ideally suited for men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 who are looking to eliminate unwanted facial lines and wrinkles that occur with age, repeated expression, and exposure to the strong San Antonio sun. What to Expect During a BOTOX® Treatment

During your initial consultation at San Antonio Eye Specialists, we will discuss your medical history as well as what your expectations from BOTOX® are. Once a treatment has been scheduled, we will sanitize the treatment area with alcohol. Dr. Iskander will then inject BOTOX® to the target areas with a tiny needle. The entire procedure is painless and takes less than 5 minutes. Ice is applied thereafter to reduce swelling. Patients may see immediate results, with more noticeable results developing within a week of treatment. To achieve desired results, it is recommended to keep on a maintenance program of 4 to 6 months. People who live active lifestyles may need to touch up sooner than those with more sedentary lifestyles because the rate in which our bodies assimilate BOTOX® varies.
