Who is a good candidate for LASIK Laser Vision Correction?

< Back to All Posts

Key Takeaways

LASIK has never been safer or more precise.  At San Antonio Eye Specialists, the premier San Antonio LASIK center we use various laser platforms to ensure we provide patients with their personal best vision, according to their eyes. LASIK, since being approved by the FDA in the mid-90s, has seen some revolutionary upgrades throughout the years. This includes blade-free femtosecond laser technology, which eliminates complications associated with a microkeratome blade.  Custom or Topo-guided LASIK also has the potential to take a patient’s vision to 20/20 or better, while often improving night vision.

Not all patients are ideal LASIK candidates. In fact, Dr. Iskander takes a conservative approach and may offer other surgical options for non-LASIK candidates. Sometimes, he wants to wait and monitor certain situations.  Honesty and experience are what patients find refreshing and valuable in a time where LASIK has become a commodity and many practices or larger corporations are capitalizing and compromising patient care.  Dr. Iskander personally meets ALL his patients before any surgical intervention and discusses a treatment plan best suited for everyone’s needs since no two eyes are identical. Dr. Iskander can often perform other procedures such as PRK for patients that have corneal scarring, thin corneas or high prescriptions. The Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is for patients with thin corneas or high amounts of nearsightedness. Dr. Iskander is one of a few surgeons in San Antonio who is trained and experienced in implanting ICL’s.  Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is for patients that may have presbyopia and want to correct the loss of near vision as they age (usually in their 40’s) or they have the beginning signs of cataracts, but aren’t yet good candidates for cataract surgery.
